Prasiolite Earrings: Everything You Needed to Know

Enhance your outfit with a pretty pair of prasiolite earrings! We know you want to. Not super familiar with this great gem? That’s okay, we’ll give you the rundown.

Prasiolite, a transparent green quartz, can vary from a light yellow-green to a deep green. Super rare in nature, most prasiolites on the jewelry market are heat-treated amethysts, which is why they’re often called "green amethysts.” Moderately inexpensive, this gem’s popularity has grown in recent years with clean, large and color-saturated stones as the most desirable and most valuable.

Originating from the Greek words, "prason" meaning leek, and "lithos" meaning stone, this gorgeous gem was named for its vegetable-colored stone appearance. If you didn’t put it together already, prasiolite has the tendency to look like peridot and green tourmaline. We think a new pair of prasiolite earrings would look smashing on you, but we don’t blame you if you want to venture out and explore other gems.

Be sure to take good care of your prasiolite stones. Clean the gem with warm soapy water and a soft brush while keeping it away from your household chemicals. Extended exposure to extreme heat or sunlight can cause discoloration or damage. Store your jewelry in a fabric-lined box and away from other items and gemstones to avoid scratching. After all, you can never be too careful!
