Labradorite Earrings Are Luscious and Lovely!

An optical illusion in a gemstone? No way! But that’s exactly what this charming gemstone called labradorite has to offer and then some. At first glance, this beautiful gemstone seems dull and drab – an ordinary gray to smoky black. But when cut correctly and viewed at specific angles, a gorgeous iridescence is displayed. Legend has it that an Inuit warrior discovered this gemstone while wandering along the coast. What he saw took his breath away – the famed Northern Lights trapped within rocks along the shore! Then, with his spear he freed the light – for you and me!

Labradorite ranks 6.0-6.5 on the Mohs Scale, so it’s not super hard but nonetheless makes for some lovely jewelry – especially when set into rings or earrings - aren’t they beautiful?! We especially love these gemstones set in gold over silver to better appreciate their color.

Labradorite gets its name from Labrador, Canada, which is the main source of the stone. The more iridescent color a labradorite displays, the more valuable the gemstone will be. Labradorites mined in Finland tend to display more intense colors of red, orange and yellow, rather than blue and green. Why should you wear this gemstone, apart from its visual appeal? Well, per certain beliefs, labradorite helps provide strength and an ability to get on well with others.
