Spring Hill Nurseries 30-Piece Hassle-Free Crocosmia Mix Collection

For an explosion of hassle-free color in summer, few plants can compete with Crocosmias. Neat, upright clumps of slender pleated leaves embrace the arching stems of fiery, funnel shaped flowers, which open in succession to give color over a long period. They make ideal feature plants for sunny borders and wonderful cut flowers. Although they prefer full to part sun they can be tucked into just about any spot in the garden in well drained garden soil. A great border plant along driveways or in confined areas. Best effect is obtained in bold groupings. This vibrant assortment will be sure to please when they come into bloom.

Six "Emily McKenzie" - light orange blooms with red center
Six "Lucifer" - orange-red freesia-like blooms
Six "George Davidson" - wide yellow to orange flowers with a slightly darker exterior
Six "Ember Glow" - burnt orange to red with yellow center
Six "Meteore" - small trumpet shaped flowers of acorn squash yellow

1) Dig a hole deep enough to allow the dormant bulb to be covered with 2" of soil.

2) Place bulb in hole and cover with soil, firming soil with fingers.

3) Water well. If natural rainfall is less than 1" per week, additional watering is recommended.

We recommend feeding your plants once every two weeks with the appropriate fertilizer for lush foliage and more spectacular bloom. Discontinue any further feedings after Sept. 1st to allow the plants to harden off for winter.

A 2-3" layer of mulch will help conserve moisture and keep beds free of weeds. It will also maintain an even soil temperature.

Keep the area around your plants free of weeds. Weeds compete with all plants for food, water and light. Walk around the garden periodically and pull weeds, including the roots as soon as you see them. Mulch also assists in keeping weeds down.

Remove spent blossoms promptly to promote additional blooming. Pinch off blooms when they are no longer attractive, but take care to leave as much foliage as possible.

Daylilies will multiply over the years. Every 4-6 years you can divide your Daylilies and replant them to make more beds or to share with friends. Spring or early fall is the best time to divide and replant.

Winter hardy in zones 5 to 9 (in lower zones dig and store for the winter). After frost causes the foliage to wither and die, cut back the stalks to ground level. Crocosmias are winter-hardy perennials and will send up new stalks late the following spring/early summer. After you cut back to the ground in the fall you can still mulch if you feel that this is necessary. However, remove the mulch in the spring as soon as temperatures start to rise.
