Spring Hill Nurseries 10-Piece Flowering Hardy Fern Collection
Don't confuse the plants in this special offer with the non-hardy potted gloxinias that are sold by florists and specialty shops. Hardy Perennial Fern (Incarvillea delavayi ) are far superior. Incarvillea is a beautiful perennial with low growing clumps of glossy, deeply divided leaves from which arise 12-24" leafless stems topped by clusters of flowers, each of which may be as much as 3" across.
Blooming from mid-spring to mid-summer, the large terminal heads of exotic trumpet-shaped flowers in this mix are a shimmering white or a bright magenta to rosy-pink with yellow throats. The flowers are held well above a rosette of dark green foliage on stout stems.
Plant them in front of other summer bloomers such as lilies and hostas, and remove spent flowers as they fade to extend the blooming season. They can also be used as an accent plant or to add a bright splash of color in the border or rock garden. They work well along the east side of buildings where they would receive good morning sun, but be sheltered during the winter.

PLANTING & CARE
1) Dig a hole at least twice as wide and twice as deep as the crown.
2) Spread the roots of the plant out and cover with soil.
3) Crowns should be buried 3-6" below soil level. Firm the soil around the crown. Water well.
4) These plants require at least 1" of rain (or equivalent watering) each week. A 2-3" layer of mulch will help conserve moisture and keep beds free of weeds. It will also maintain an even soil temperature.
Apply plant food at a rate of 5 lbs per 100 sq. ft. of garden. It is also for use on seeded plantings. After the seeds have emerged, broadcast our general purpose over the desired area at above rate and incorporate into the soil.
Apply a 2-4" layer of shredded bark, compost or other organic mulch around your plants to promote moisture retention, maintain even soil temperatures, and to discourage weed growth.
Keep the area around your plants free of weeds. Weeds compete with all plants for food, water and light. Walk around the garden periodically and pull weeds, including the roots as soon as you see them. Mulch also assists in keeping weeds down.
Remove spent blossoms to promote additional blooming. Pinch or cut-off when they have faded, but leave as much foliage as possible. Cityline Hydrangeas bloom on old wood and should not require any heavy annual pruning as these are dwarf plants. Clip off unsightly or dead growth to maintain the vine in good form and shape. Cut flower stalks between the bottom blossom and uppermost leaves.
Add 1 tablespoon to soil in hole and mix thoroughly before planting the transplant. Scratch fertilizer at above rate into surface once they start flowering/fruiting. For existing garden, broadcast around existing plants and incorporate into soil at the above rate. Apply at the beginning of growing season and again when plants start to bear vegetables. Discontinue any feeding after September 1. Your plants want to harden off for winter dormancy.
Must be dug and stored over winter below Zone 5.
